The rapidly growing Koetter Group needed their technology to keep pace. What started as a small, family-run construction business in the 1950s is today one of the largest full-service design-build general contractors and commercial developers in Southern Indiana and greater Louisville, Kentucky.
Koetter’s newest line of business needed a technology strategy right away. The company was expanding through its K-RAX division, which designs and builds new innovative rickhouses that store wooden barrels for Kentucky bourbon distilleries and other spirit producers. Incorporating technology into the buildings would be essential for everything from environmental monitoring to inventory control.

Matrix Integration was already working with the Koetter Group to manage the company’s IT operations when Koetter asked the Matrix team to design the technology strategy for the rickhouses. Together, the companies created an initial wish list that included all the technology that would be essential today as well as in the future.
The items on the list included high-availability wireless network connectivity, high-speed internet, and a cloud-based data storage solution.

As K-RAX builds and markets its new rickhouses, the company is able to offer customers a fully-integrated storage system. Although hands-on, traditional whisky and winemaking techniques are still a part of the process, the availability of advanced technology allows distillers to better automate their operations, make fewer mistakes and provide a product with better consistency.
Matrix Integration plans to continue the partnership with The Koetter Group by implementing data security governance policies, an industry-leading endpoint security solution, and further expansion of cloud resources.
